Many are the plans
In the mind of a man
But it’s the purpose of the lord
That will stand
You turned three months yesterday
And you are as big as a one year old
(At least if we believe in the sizing charts of kids clothing manufacturers and diaper brands)
We went upstate and hiked through mountains
Occasionally your breathing pattern would become strange from the elevation
So of course we panicked and googled
But everything was normal
And we weren’t that high but still
As parents instinct takes over when any perceived threat occurs and both me and your mama step into a whole new mode
Your mama is so caring and protective and so am I really
I can say wholeheartedly you are surrounded by love
And you are also love
Like a spiritual love beam exploding our eyes when you smile.
The mountain air suits us
We felt a relaxation from being out of the city and immediately plotted a move
We should live up here I said to your mama
She said she was into it but wondered about the shops
I told her we could stock up in nearby towns and we’d be fine.
Giant horses passed us on the trail
And I held you facing outwardly
Your big blue eyes jetting this way and that
Taking it all in
Immersed in the magic of fall
Orange and red leaves mixing with brown and green
Totally mystical
The cool breeze hitting our faces walking along the edge of a lake. It was like shangrila
But aren’t there a lot of rednecks up here your mama asked
And just then a family of Russians walked by in dark glasses looking like they were in the KGB
I said red necks are different around here
We both laughed
And besides I like rednecks!
I explained to her that artists from the city move to these parts so it makes for a freaky population or a population of freaks
We continued to walk
And saw a guy taking photos off a cliff into a wide expanse of trees showing off their majesty
Do you live up here I asked him
I do he said
How is it
It’s great he said but so many people are coming up here you can’t find a place anymore and prices are surging
Everyone wants to escape the madness of the city
I said yeah people have lost their minds
Their brains are melted from cognitive dissonance
Theyre beat down and in a state of blind compliance without the need for logic or critical thinking to determine their behavior
In short they’ve given up their sovereignty to corrupt institutions who don’t have their best interest at heart
Yet they will defend their captures to the death and try and destroy anyone who tries to warn them
(I didn’t actually say all that to him but I thought it all in the blink of an eye as an eagle flew through the sky)
I told your mama if we lived up here
I would train for a marathon by running these trails in this mountain every day in my barefoot shoes
We could get cross country skies and mountain bikes
When there’s a will there’s a way
We will find a way.
