Dear Alessia 100221

I hope you find something that absolves you
And redeems you
Something you love that gives you love back
As you obsess about loving more
A fortress in a world that can be cold
A place to go to hide out for years
And discuss politics or love or justice
With the creator
I hope you become a creator
And never let perfectionism rob you blind
And to the degree that it does
I hope you understand that it does that to all of us

Those subtle connections you dance around
Listening for the voices
The crazy ones think are all in their heads
Through art
Through music
Through paint
Through words
We make new connections into the spirit world we live amongst
And these corridors or avenues become bastions to hold our longings and our fears
They become quadrants of redemption
If ever the world turns its back on you
(And there may be those times especially if you decide to ever challenge anything at all)
Then you will have a place to go
A place to catch your breath
A place to express
Maybe something you couldn’t tell another living soul
And you might just express it in a way only aliens from a distant planet could understand
But that would be good enough
Because you worked through it within
And you’ve made sure your internal landscape is somewhere that the sun can shine again

When I was 15 my aunt gave me a sequential circuits keyboard that had a sequencer
Which meant I could record six tracks over each other and they would loop
As I overdubbed
I became a celebrated genius composer (in my head)
In that little room in Akron Ohio
I had a tux with tails
I stood in front of a giant orchestra
And signaled to the oboes
And then the section of trumpets
And the aliens that played timpani drums which doubled as elephants as they rode around in circles encasing us all
There was a giant crowd
Cheering me in symphony hall
When my mom would walk in
And suddenly it was just me and that keyboard on a desk again
That sounds Chinese she would say
You want something to eat
No I’m good I would answer
And as she left the hall would fill back up
I’d start a new creation
And the movable orchestra in my mind would change again

I knew then I wanted my life to be about
The creation of those visions
Which gave vision to a new me
For me there was something in those worlds of imagination more real than the supposedly real one of homework and bullies
This gave me a place to be free of all that or so I thought
A vehicle to frame your life around

I found I could change it
I could move it from the synthesizer to the bass
From the bass to the canvas
Or the page
All of them gave their own opportunities of creation
All of them like soil for the blossoming of unusual worlds
All of them bonus worlds or secret worlds
Which can both contain the world of supposed reality
Or be contained within it
Like a best friend you keep in your pocket
And take with you wherever you go
Find
Something like that to travel with you on your journey
A house for your love
Which enables your love to become full spectrum
There’s the love you give others
There’s the love you give God
There’s the love you give yourself
And then there’s the love you give your dreams
Reflecting through creativity and commitment

Now there’s more resources than ever to aid and abed your artistic visions
But there are also at least a hundred times as many distractions and psychological road blocks
Which keep one divorced from pursuing their dreams
But don’t be tricked
There’s a huge difference from being distracted
By externals
Than there is being possessed by an internal drive
To deliver a vision
To god and to your fellow man egged on by dreams of glory
A glory you don’t realize you’ve already attained just by riding the wave of a dream
You will know me by my fruits
It says in the Bible
To protect your fruits
To value what blossoms within
To dream about giving it out
And allowing it to inspire others
To believe in themselves and do the same
When you are in that space
You already are in the atmosphere of glory
The atmosphere of true love
Spiritual love
Artistic love
A place where no one can touch you
If only for a moment.

Find something that will take you there
And when you do
Protect it
Like a treasure
Because more than anything else
People envy that connection
The connection to the kingdom within
The connection to the almighty
The place where you emulate him
Creating new worlds
Which fall back over his
And don’t worry if the worlds you create don’t resonate with the masses or make their way through
Don’t let that stop you from trying again
And trying again
And trying again
Until your very last breath
Releases you from all this.
